MoU with University of Peradeniya

The main objective of this MOU is to foster research and development collaboration between the GJRTI and the UoP and to carry out joint dissemination activities. The activities that would be encompassed under this MOU include:

  • Carrying out research and dissemination activities in the areas of gem exploration, value addition to low quality gemstones, develop innovative technologies that have scientific, technological and economic significance to the country as a whole, with provision to add any other clauses.
  • To secure resources and funds for research activities identified under the provisions of this MOU
  • To plan, design and execute various research projects identifying needs of the gem industry
  • To publish the research outcomes both in local and international journals to establish a scientific platform to fill the knowledge gap that exists in this field.

MoU With Uwa-wellassa university of Sri Lanka

  • The University and the Institute shall act cooperatively by sharing the knowledge, skills, experience, technology, human and physical resources possessed by both parties through this Memorandum of Understanding.
  • The University shall provide joint collaborations for research, dissemination activities and research symposia in the areas of gem exploration, gemmology, value addition to low quality gem minerals, jewellery science, develop innovative technologies that have scientific, technological and economic significance and assist the Institute in conducting a detailed, island-wide study on identification of the demand for knowledge, skills, training and technology in the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka and to analyze the effectiveness of the training programmes offered by the Institute.
  • The Institute shall provide the University with research and training opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be proactive in employment of the University’s graduates. If necessary, Researches/ Academics of the Institute shall act as external supervisors for those students.

MoU with Lanka Refactroies Limited

The main objective of this MOU is to foster research and development collaboration between GIRTI and LRL and to carry out joint technological development activities of LAKMINI gas furnace. The activities encompasses under this MOU include:

  • To identify the key components for the modification of the LAKMINI furnace, aiming to achieve optimal color and clarity in ruby and sapphires.
  • Carrying out research activities in the area of technological development of LAKMINI gas furnace to obtain optimum condition for Ruby and Sapphires heat treatment.
  • To secure resources and funds for research activities identified under the provisions of this

  • To plan, design and execute various research projects on furnace development identifying the needs of industry
  • To obtain joint patent for the new technologies.
